Jim is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland, and his species of choice is the magnificent Saratoga, particularly in in local pond,  the Big Russ Hinze Dam. Join us as we discuss with Jim about his approach to this lake that that many consider top tier difficult. What his motivation to achieving such epic footage is and his burning passion for these Australian native swimming dinosaurs.

Its a timely podcast when for most of the country, we are or are close to seeing migratory schools of Tuna pass their way through local waters. The ways to be consistent with this aspect of our sport is a real science, the approaches are varied and diverse for the consistent guys. On this episode we cover a range of techniques to put a fly in front of these rockets, including highly experimental ways to avoid shark predation, tackle that's unlikely to break, a measure of how long you should take to land one, flies, casting expectations and most importantly the role of the captain.

We are back for another year of Australia's first, and only Flyfishing beef podcast for 2026 !! What a cracker we have for the first one of the year. Kurt Rowlands now the owner of the longest running Saltwater Fly Fishing operations in Australia located in one of the countries flyfishing meccas joins us on the show. Yep.. we talk to Kurt about that transition from guide to business owner without being an alcoholic, but the real meat in the sandwich here is the fishing. So many golden nuggets in here for Permit anglers heading to fish Cape York if your into that thing.... And for the real aficionados of Aussie flats fishing, we talk about Blue Bastard wrangling like you have never heard it before... You may think you know.. but I'd be surprised if you know about this. From chef served Weet-Bix, to false killer whales showing off Black Jewfish, and strong opinions on wading in FNQ, and right back around to straightening hooks before death by reefing,  this Podcast was a cool one to record and a great one to kick off the new year.

Episode 204 - Oman Fly fishing with Arabian Sport Fishing

On this episode, we highlight a once in a lifetime experience for host Chris and guest co host Steve Kirkham who both recently returned from an epic trip to Hasik, which is located in Oman. After an epic 30 odd hours of travel, the boys arrived in a whole new world of landscape, culture and wildlife to have an opportunity to catch the rarest Permit in the world, Trachinotus Africanus. Hosted by the legendary Clare Carter (owner of Arabian Sport Fishing) and head guide Wesley Rapson, Chris and Steve were treated to a truly "excellent adventure". On this show, we discuss the travels, Omani culture and the great setup that Arabian Sport Fishing offer... We also talk about a new and emerging way to fish for Africanus Permit that Wes and Clare from ASF are pioneering. There is very little information about this way of fishing for them, so we hope enjoy the show and perhaps get a new way of looking at one of the coveted "Big 4" permit species. Hear us talk about crazy number of Permit and how targeting and feeding tailing fish with crustacean patterns is not only the latest way to fish for them, but the numbers suggest its a way way more effective way to fish for them. If you are in pursuit of the big 4 permit before you die and catching them in a very satisfying way that is synonymous with all other Permit fishing... then this episode is a must.

Episode 202 - Tom Howe

Tom Howe, a West Oz Fly Angler, Cocos Island Guide and fly design professor. Look... if you want to hear some over thinking stuff about Saltwater Fly Fishing and fly design.. this show will be audio syrup for your ears. Tom and Chris dissect deep in to fly design, the difference in flats fishing from the East Coast to the West coast and ways to fast track your fishing skills. To be fair there is some talk about Bream on fly, but to balance that out we get a Cocos Island Guide to weigh in on "Do Bumpies Eat", the answer may shock you. We also talk about the IGFA record Trigger fish and Bonefish that was caught under Tom's guiding, and what its like progressing as a newbie during this modern time of social media influence. So so much,  a real smorgasbord of food for thought. This is one we have been looking forward to for a long time.
