On Episode 130 - We chat to Gian Booysen, a resident of New Zealand, a saltwater flyfishing guide and marine biologist. Spending the time with Gian made for a super interesting chat, sure we learned a little about the guy, but what was very interesting is that we spoke a lot about the prey on the flats just as much as we spoke about the kingfish up in the skinny water that hunt them. If you think NZ is all trout and Deepwater saltwater fishing, then you are missing out... think 1 meter long Kingfish, think crabs, think flats for miles, think of seeing your arbor knot, think every part of a flats fishing destination that has fish that will get the heart rat going so fast that you may never go to NZ for trout again !!

Episode 129 - Leroy Addison

On Episode 129- We talk to a young student of Fly fishing, Leroy Addison. Leroy is located near Melbourne Victoria, and is like most of us, realising that every day is a school day when it comes to Flyfishing.  Transitioning from early beginnings of fishing for Trout in Tasmania and Victoria, Leroy is turning his recent attention to Australian natives and that delicious river meat known as Carp. We asked Leroy on to tell us about his sum of experiences in addition to how someone who has grown up with the influence of social media sifts through the smoke and mirrors to fine tune his results on the water. An interesting show that started off with no real direction that quickly took a few turns that would be of interest to anyone who is watching and tuning their interests through readily available information sources. Perhaps little known, Rod is also a very experienced bow hunter, a sport that has obvious parallels with flyfishing. On this episode, the gang flies solo into a long form chat that starts off by talking about a subject that is close to both hosts core interests, Surf Candy Fleyes for Tuna. The discussion goes into talking about the design of the fly and what performance is desired from the fly which then turns to discussion points about how to achieve those desired outcomes. As usual the the hosts display the attention span of a 6 year old and delve into alternative Tuna flies and the influence successful conventional gear has had on modern fly-fishing techniques seen only in recent years.
